Event Description Martino is one of the most original and celebrated jazz-based guitarists to emerge since the 1960s. In 1980, the guitarist suffered a severe brain aneurysm and underwent emergency surgery after being told that he could die within hours. After the operation he could remember almost nothing. He barely recognized his parents and had no memory of his guitar or his career. Through intensive study of his own historic recordings, and with the help of computer technology, Martino managed to reverse his memory loss and return to form on his instrument. Martino Unstrung, part of The Jazz Series’ four-part film series, “Body & Soul: Jazz on Film,” produced in conjunction with Ragtag Cinema, will be shown on Tuesday, Nov. 3, at 7:00 p.m.The documentary examines Martino’s memory loss and recovery. As an added bonus, Martino will be on hand at the screening and will be available for questions following the film. Advance general admission tickets ($4 to $8) are available through the Jazz Series’ or at Ragtag Cinema’s box offices and Web sites as well as through Ticketmaster. |
