Ron Revord, Ph.D., assistant research professor, will discuss growing chestnuts and hazelnuts in Missouri and lead a tour of his breeding program at HARF. Participants will have an opportunity to talk to experienced producers in a learning circle format, and financing agroforestry operations will also be addressed. We will the cover the principles of alley cropping, including design and implementation, equipment and infrastructure, and then take a deeper dive into the details of specific tree crops ideal for these systems in the Midwest. Revord will discuss growing chestnuts and hazelnuts in Missouri and then we will take a tour of the various plantings at the MU Horticulture and Agroforestry Research Farm (HARF). Cost to register is $10 and includes lunch.
