This workshop will cover the principles of alley cropping including design, implementation, equipment and tree crops suited for these systems. Ron Revord, Ph.D., assistant research professor, will discuss growing chestnuts and hazelnuts in Missouri and lead a tour of his breeding program at HARF. Participants will have an opportunity to talk to experienced producers in a learning circle format, and financing agroforestry operations will also be addressed. We will the cover the principles of alley cropping, including design and implementation, equipment and infrastructure, and then take a deeper dive into the details of specific tree crops ideal for these systems in the Midwest. Revord will discuss growing chestnuts and hazelnuts in Missouri and then we will take a tour of the various plantings at the MU Horticulture and Agroforestry Research Farm (HARF). Cost to register is $10 and includes lunch.
