Moving Beyond Allyship: Being in Solidarity with Low Income Communities - For at least 50 years, governments, nonprofits, and foundations have collaborated to wage the War on Poverty, but the deficit thinking, systemic discrimination, and declarations of saviorhood have done little to convince either side of mutually beneficial outcomes. This presentation will discuss common missteps in building relationships with partners in low income communities and how people can move beyond the concept of allyship to one of solidarity, which allows for a united front to create real change.
