Dianna Borsi O’Brien, the author of Gehrke’s life story, “From Melon Fields to Moon Rocks,” will do a book reading and signing from 5 to 7 p.m. on June 22 at the Boone County Historical Society, 3801 Ponderosa St.
O'Brien is an adjunct instructor at the School of Journalism. Gehrke, 1917-2009, was an MU professor until 1987 and the founder of ABC Labs until its 2015 buyout by global firm EAG Laboratories.
In the 1960s, Gehrke was tapped by NASA to analyze the moon rocks brought back from the Apollo moon missions.
The book about Gehrke’s life describes his path from childhood poverty to successful professor, international scientist and founder of Columbia-based ABC Labs.
