MEDIA ADVISORY: University of Missouri offers public events for Engagement Week

WHAT:

 

Engagement Week will showcase the impact the University of Missouri System’s extension programming and university engagement have on addressing Missouri’s grand challenges in economic opportunity, educational excellence and health and well-being.

 

 

WHEN & WHERE:

 

The Role of Engagement

Robert Jones, chancellor of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, will present “The Engaged University.” A panel discussion on engagement in higher education will follow his presentation. He will be joined by the chancellors of the University of Missouri System’s four universities. It will be moderated by David Kurpius, dean of the Missouri School of Journalism.

Novak Leadership Speaker Series

Stephen M.R. Covey, author of “The Speed of Trust,” will present a keynote speech for the Novak Leadership Speaker Series. The speech will be followed by a conversation between Covey and David Novak, retired CEO and co-founder of Yum! Brands and CEO of oGoLead.

Covey will discuss how trust is crucial to the success of any leader and organization. This event is cosponsored by Novak Leadership Institute, MU Office of Extension and Engagement, and the Trulaske College of Business’s School of Accountancy in partnership with Plante Moran.

Broadband Access

MU leaders, faculty and staff will discuss regional and local broadband access. Broadband is a critical factor in economic growth, educational opportunity and access to health care — for all of Missouri and beyond. During sessions featuring keynote speakers and panel and tabletop discussions, participants will strategize with legislators, industry partners and stakeholders on how to make high-speed broadband internet available throughout the state.

  • Missouri Commissioner of Higher Education Zora Mulligan
