For the sixth year in a row, we are continuing with the theme of FOCUS ON AFRICA.

The purpose of the discussion is to encourage MU scholars with international interest to meet each other, stimulate each other’s thinking, and potentially lead to the creation of a broader research network and joint scholarship.
Topics across the year are chosen to highlight the intersection among multiple disciplinary perspectives with a common geographical focus.

TITLE: Remembering Slavery at African Sites of Memory

Dr. Liz MacGonagle is an African historian in the Departments of History and African & African-American Studies at the University of Kansas. In her research, she crosses historical, geographical, and theoretical boundaries to link nation, culture, and ethnicity to processes of identity formation in African and Diasporan settings. She has served as the Director of the Kansas African Studies Center, one of ten National Resource Centers for Africa in the US.
