EXHIBITION DATES: November 5-29, 2018
RECEPTION: Friday, November 9 4-6pm

Bingham Gallery and the Surface Design Association were excited to invite students to submit work for the second annual SDA Juried Student Exhibition, Future Tense II. The exhibition celebrates the creative work of student artists, designers, and makers working with or inspired by fiber or textile materials or techniques.

Future Tense II offers a glimpse into the future of contemporary fibers by presenting the very best work being made by students in the field today. The exhibition will also double up with the Midwest Fiber Art Educator Network (MFAEN) conference from November 9-11, 2018 at the University of Missouri in Columbia, MO. MFAEN includes affiliations with School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Kansas City Art Institute, Arizona State University, Kent State University, and several other institutions located in the Midwest and beyond.

Catherine Armbrust is the director of the George Caleb Bingham Gallery on the University of Missouri Campus, as well as Adjunct Assistant Professor in the University of Missouri & University of Missouri, Kansas City Art Departments, and teaches Fibers at Columbia College. Most recently, Armbrust’s mixed media work most often conflates biological and cultural themes in the forms of costumes, dioramas, collages, soft sculpture, and installations.

C. Pazia Mannella is an Assistant Teaching Professor of Fibers and the Fibers Program Head at the University of Missouri, as well as on the Board of Directors for Surface Design Association. Mannella’s work has been featured in many national exhibition as well as at Urban Outfitters Headquarters and Snyderman-Works Galleries.
