Join us for “Digital health interventions for couples with potential for other dyad types” a keynote presentation by Dr. Jason Mitchell, College of Education and Human Development – Human Development & Family Science, MizzouForward faculty candidate. Dr. Mitchell will present on his research for approximately 40-minutes with a 20-minute question and answer session to follow.
Dr. Mitchell is currently a tenured Associate Professor with over 15 years of experience in design, implementation, and analysis of HIV/STI prevention, substance use, and health promotion projects with couples, primarily with sexual minority and gender minority adult populations (e.g., LGBTQ+) in the U.S. and abroad.
Dr. Mitchell’s program of research with sexual and gender minority couples leverages digital health and relationship science to improve health and relationship outcomes by developing, testing, and evaluating couples-based prevention interventions. His program of research is theoretically guided by the Couples Interdependence Theory for Health Behavior Change; is web-based (Digital Health); applies mixed methods; collects qualitative, quantitative, biomedical, and para/intervention data from both partners of the relationship (i.e., dyadic data); focuses on couples. His content expertise and experience in conducting research with couples’ centers on behavioral and biomedical approaches to HIV/STI prevention, substance use, and relationship dynamics (e.g., communication, commitment, sexual agreements and guidelines, trust, communal coping, and transformation of motivation). In addition, he also conducts research on approaches to multiple health behavior changes with couples. His long-term goal is to develop efficacious digital interventions that are sustainable and widely accessible.
