MizzouForward Keynote
Glia as Engineers of Neural Development
April 3rd | 11:00am – 12:00pm
111 Tucker Hall
Join us for " Glia as Engineers of Neural Development " a keynote presentation by Dr. Sarah Kucenas, College of Arts & Science - Biological Sciences, MizzouForward faculty candidate. Dr. Kucenas will present on her research for approximately 40-minutes with a 20-minute question and answer session to follow.
Dr. Sarah Kucenas is a Professor of Biology at the University of Viriginia, Charlottesville. Dr. Kucenas serves as the Director, Program for Fundamental Neuroscience, the Co-Director, Brain Institute and the Faculty Director, CORE Scholars Program for her institution. Dr. Kucenas completed her B.Sc. degree in Biology (minors in Chemistry and English) from Valparaiso University, Valparaiso, IN and earned her Ph.D. in Pharmacological & Physiological Science from Saint Louis University, St. Louis, MO.
The long-term goal of our research program is to elucidate the roles of peripheral and central glia and glial-glial interactions during nervous system development, maintenance, and disease/injury. Using Danio rerio (zebrafish) as a model system (and to a lesser extent, mouse), we combine genetic and pharmacological perturbation, single cell manipulation, RNAsequencing, laser ablation/axotomy, and in vivo, time-lapse imaging to directly and continuously observe glial cell origins, behaviors and interactions in an intact vertebrate.
You can access Dr.Kucenas’ CV via OneDrive here:

After the keynote, please provide candidate feedback with our brief survey.
