MU celebrates Veterans Week


In recognition of Veterans Day, the University of Missouri will host several activities during Veterans Week to honor and celebrate those who have served or continue to serve in the military. Highlights include a parade, a symposium about issues faced by attorneys who work with veterans and military, the annual wreath laying ceremony and a military appreciation football game.



Nov. 6-16, various campus and downtown locations, see attached schedule for specific event times and locations.


Wednesday, Nov. 6

University Concert Series: United States Air Force Band of Mid-America’s Airlifter Brass
7 p.m.
Jesse Auditorium

This group is a brass quintet known for performing original arrangements as well as military marches. Tickets are free at the Missouri Theatre box office.

NOTE:  Limit four tickets per person

Friday, Nov. 8

6th Annual Veterans Clinic Symposium: Judgment and Courage: The Roll of Attorneys in Critical Military and Veterans Issues
9 a.m. – 3 p.m.
MU Law School
Hulston Hall, Room 7

This year’s symposium will focus on some of the most troubling legal questions faced by lawyers who work with the military and veterans. Presenters will explain their strategies and decisions in several fascinating cases.


Friday, Nov. 8

Mizzou Joint ROTC Veterans Day Vigil
11 a.m.
Boone County Courthouse, 705 E. Walnut St.


Cadets and midshipmen from the ROTC units at Mizzou will form a detail and hold a vigil near the war memorials at the Boone County Courthouse. A detail of cadets will march every hour from Nov. 8 to Nov. 9. The vigil is coordinated by the Air Force ROTC, Detachment 440.

Saturday, Nov. 9

Mizzou Joint ROTC Annual Veterans Day Parade
10:30 a.m.
Boone County Courthouse, 705 E. Walnut St.


The annual MU Veterans Day parade hosted by the Air Force ROTC will begin at MU’s Columns and travel along Eighth Street to the Boone County Courthouse. Several Boone County veterans and commemorative organizations will participate. A short ceremony will be held at the Boone County Courthouse immediately following the parade.

Monday, Nov. 11

Wreath Laying Ceremony
Memorial Tower, Memorial Student Union

Join the annual wreath laying ceremony honoring fallen student veterans. Following a reading of names for the National Roll call, there will be an opportunity to take an “I support MU veterans” photo at 12:50 p.m. A reception follows in the lower Bengal Lair in the MU Student Center.

Tuesday, Nov. 12

Green Zone Training with MRE Lunch and Student Veteran Panel
10:30 – 1 p.m.
Memorial Union, N214 A&B

Student veterans will share their experiences. The event includes a meal. The event is sponsored by the MU Veterans Center and the Green Zone Committee.


Wednesday, Nov. 13

Thank you card making for veterans

10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Triangle space, MU Student Center


Create a custom card and write a note to a veteran in honor of Veterans Week at Mizzou. All supplies provided. Sponsored by the Campus Activities Programming Board.


Friday, Nov. 15

Mizzou Veterans Week Banquet
6:30 p.m. social hour, 7 p.m. meal
Memorial Union, N 214 A&B
