Three uplifting works by three distinctively different composers! Bernstein’s uplifting, yet serene work reflects some of the rhythms and harmonies used in his musical, West Side Story. Poulenc utilizes the brilliant, sparkling colors for which he is known while setting the traditional liturgical text in a way that Ludwig van Beethoven never could imagined. All of the heat and fury of the nineteenth-century composer is on full display in the second movement of his Missa solemnis.
