From Bedside to Home: Harnessing Informatics to Advance Quality and Access

 

 

The transformation of healthcare delivery extends beyond hospital walls, reaching into patients' homes through the power of informatics. This talk explores how digital health innovations, telehealth, and data-driven decision-making reshape care quality and accessibility. By leveraging electronic health records (EHRs), and AI-powered telehealth insights, we can bridge care gaps, enhance patient outcomes, and improve healthcare equity. Drawing from real-world applications and research, this talk will highlight the application of novel user-centered informatics applications to improve outcomes and access to care that is not confined to the bedside but extends into everyday life.

Dr. Saif Khairat is the Beerstecher-Blackwell Distinguished Professor at UNC-Chapel Hill, with joint appointments at the Lineberger Cancer Center, Cecil G. Sheps Center for Health Services Research, and the School of Nursing. He directs the NIH-funded Center for Virtual Care Value and Excellence (ViVE) and serves as associate director of UNC's Carolina Health Informatics Program. Dr. Khairat has authored over 100 influential papers across 35+ peer-reviewed journals and conferences and has secured over $7.5 million in research grants in the past five years. An international expert in digital health, he advises the World Health Organization on policies to address non-communicable diseases in low- and middle-income countries. Dr. Khairat earned his PhD in Health Informatics, as well as bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Computer Science from the University of Missouri, and an MPH from UNC-Chapel Hill.
