Indigenous research methodologies promote the self-determination of Indigenous peoples through the place-specific protocols of relationship, reciprocity, and land. In the last twenty years in working with the Cheslatta Carrier Nation in northern British Columbia, his journey to understand and put Indigenous methodologies into practice has been a difficult process of unlearning traditional Eurocentric research practices and learning a different and more empowering approach.

Attending the annual Cheslatta Camp Out with Mizzou students, Dr. Larsen credits Maddie Davis, BJ in Photojournalism and Hayley Portell, BFA in Art, teaching him about the power of art in decolonizing research methodologies.
