Science Night at Jefferson Farm and Garden: Plant Genetics -- Where Our Food Comes From and How We Got Where We Are

Science Night at Jefferson Farm and Garden returns for a second evening of scientific discussion and education with an event titled: Plant Genetics -- Where Our Food Comes From and How We Got Where We Are. The primary focus of the discussion will be centered on corn, and the Missouri Maize Center will be an active participant in the event. 
 
The event, which is free and open to the public, will take place from 5:30-7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 19, at Jefferson Farm and Garden, in Columbia. Below is a tentative schedule for the festivities:

 

  • 5:30-6 p.m. -- Tour of demonstration field
  • 6-7 p.m. -- Roundtable discussion

1) How our crops have been modified during domestication and traditional breeding – Sherry Flint-Garcia

2) Integrated vignettes of studies at MU as they relate to topics 1 and 3 – graduate students and post-docs

3) GMO and CRISPR technologies in modern agriculture – Jim Birchler

  • 7-7:30 p.m. -- Second tour of demonstration field
