Squatters, Statesmen, and the Rupture of American Democracy, 1830-1860

Providing the MU community with a first glimpse into his research, Kinder Institute Postdoctoral Fellow in Political History John Suval will give an October 26 talk on how white squatters on western lands came to occupy a central and destabilizing position in U.S. political culture in the decades leading up to the Civil War. The talk will be held at 3:30pm in Jesse Hall 410.
