WGST Affiiate Lecture Series presents 6.25% Gray: On Adrian Piper's "Retirement from Being Black'"  a talk by Thomas Love, PFFIE Postdoctoral Fellow in Art History

Born in New York in 1948 and based in Berlin since 2005, the artist and philosopher Adrian Piper has explored the construction of identity throughout her career, moving from early work that insisted on her identity as a Black woman, to reflective essays on her mixed heritage,
and her eventual self-described "retirement from being black" in 2012. In this talk, Love will analyze Piper's work to explore the conflicts between humanist universalism, feminism, and identity politics in contemporary art and culture.
