This workshop will assist program directors and assistants in understanding their roles and responsibilities, along with the resources and support available through the International Center and the university. It will provide guidelines for addressing health, safety and security issues impacting program participants and student behavioral issues occurring on study and travel abroad programs. Presenters include representatives from the UM System Office of General Counsel and Office of Risk and Insurance Management and the MU director of student international health, safety and security.

The workshop covers:

  • Best practices to support student health, safety and security
  • Individual and institutional liability concerns
  • Risk management and insurance coverage
  • Student conduct issues
  • Emergency response

Required for all faculty, staff and program assistants who have leadership roles for MU study abroad programs or university-related international activities. All faculty, staff and program assistants who lead programs abroad are required to attend this workshop every other year in order to receive updated information.
