We all have a fundamental need to feel like we’re part of the group. Helping students recognize that Mizzou is their place and we are their people can enhance their engagement, motivation, and learning. We’ll examine what the literature says about fostering students’ sense of belonging, identify evidence-based teaching practices that apply across disciplines and modalities, and explore the value of reflection as we strive to be more effective and inclusive in our teaching. You’ll leave with practical takeaways to apply next week or next semester—strategies that extend belonging to students and promote their learning and success.
