Audubon's Paper Menageries: Birds and Quadrupeds
The bison, bears, hawks and bluebirds depicted by John James Audubon each have a story beyond what is found in the book of original prints by the artist, The Birds of America (1827–1838) and The Viviparous Quadrupeds of North America (1845–1848), which are the foundation of this exhibition. Perhaps the most poignant is that of a pair of passenger pigeons, members of a species that became extinct in 1914.
