Diana R. Fuentes was named executive director of IRE in April 2021. She oversees the grassroots nonprofit of nearly 5,000 members from around the world, dedicated to improving the quality and diversity of investigative journalism. She has more than 35 years of award-winning journalism experience, from police reporter and statehouse bureau chief to political editor and publisher. A second-generation Texan who is fluent in Spanish, Fuentes has a bachelor's from the University of Texas at Austin and a master's from Texas State University. She has leadership roles in numerous professional organizations.

 

DAVID HERZOG is a veteran investigative reporter, data journalist and educator with more than 30 years of experience. As the academic adviser to the National Institute for Computer-Assisted Reporting, he helps guide data services for Investigative Reporters and Editors. IRE is a global organization with more than 5,000 members based at the Journalism School. He helps direct the Dow Jones News Fund’s data journalism residency program for IRE.

He is part of the interdisciplinary team that launched the online M.S. in Data Science and Analytics program at the University of Missouri. He developed and teaches a data journalism class geared toward professionals for the program.

 

Andrea Waner is the director of engagement for the Association of Health Care Journalists (AHCJ). She spearheads the organization’s engagement and outreach endeavors as well as advises on strategic partnerships. She recently concluded her tenure as city councilwoman and mayor pro tempore in Columbia, Missouri. Her leadership was instrumental in enacting legislation that ensured paid family leave for municipal employees and legislation that established legal protections and support for the LGBTQ+ community. Recognized for her advocacy, Andrea was honored with the 2020 Missouri Progress in Social Justice Award and earned induction into the Global Honor Society for Public Administration. Through her work with AHCJ, Andrea enjoys working at the nexus of journalism and health policy and elevating the standards for health care reporting.
