Join us for “Missouri agriculture at a crossroads: enhancing agronomic and environmental sustainability with biogeochemistry” a keynote presentation by Dr. Andrew Margenot, CAFNR-School of Natural Resources MizzouForward faculty candidate.  Dr. Margenot will present on his research for approximately 40-minutes with a 20-minute question and answer session to follow.

Andrew Margenot earned a Ph.D. in Soil Science and Biogeochemistry from University of California Davis in 2016, working on soil fertility in smallholder agriculture in the tropics. After additional work in the tropics, he joined the faculty at University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign in 2017, where he is currently Associate Professor. Dr. Margenot leads a research team that combines soil science, agronomy, and biogeochemistry to optimize the agronomic and environmental sustainability of Midwest agriculture.

Dr. Margenot works to ensure profitable and sustainable agriculture for the American farmer and society, with a focus on the Midwest. His work is grounded in a biogeochemical approach to understand and manage processes that underpin agroecosystem functions. His research improves and develops understanding of nutrient use efficiency and crop productivity across diverse agricultural systems, from basic knowledge to application. Currently, his work focuses on nitrogen and phosphorus management, nutrient loss reductions to surface waters, carbon crediting and soil health. Working with agricultural stakeholders from farmers to policy makers, Dr. Margenot develops evidence-based approaches to soil, nutrient and water management to support effective decision making.
