Mitophagy Impairment in Glaucomatous Neurodegeneration

May 1st | 4:00pm – 5:00pm

Acuff Auditorium (MA217) – School of Medicine

Join us for Mitophagy Impairment in Glaucomatous Neurodegeneration" a keynote presentation by School of Medicine - Ophthalmology, MizzouForward faculty candidate, Dr. Prabhavathi Maddineni.  Dr. Maddineni will present on her research for approximately 40-minutes with a 20-minute question and answer session to follow.

Dr. Prabhavathi Maddineni is a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Department of Pharmacology & Neurosciences and North Texas Eye Research Institute at the University of North Texas Health Science Center in Fort Worth, TX.  Her field of study is Cell Biology (Glaucoma).  Dr. Maddineni completed her B.Sc Degree in Biology-Biochemistry at Sri Krishnadevaraya University, Anatapur, India and her M.Sc in Biochemistry at Sri Venkateswara University, Tirupati, India.  She earned her Ph.D in Biochemistry-Immunology from the University of Madras, Chennai, India.

Dr. Maddineni’s long-term research interest is to understand the molecular pathways governing mitochondrial quality control and how alterations in mitochondrial dynamics especially mitophagy contribute to glaucomatous neurodegeneration in retina, optic nerve, and the visual centers of the brain. This work is clinically very significant and allows to unravel potential therapeutic targets for the effective treatment of glaucoma.
