MizzouForward Keynote – Processing and Characterization of Multifunctional Composites and Polymers
February 27th | 4:00 pm – 5:00 pm
Ketcham Auditorium – W1005 Lafferre Hall
College of Engineering
Join us for “Processing and Characterization of Multifunctional Composites and Polymers" a keynote presentation by College of Engineering - Mechanical and Aerospace, MizzouForward faculty candidate, Dr. Michael Keller. Dr. Keller will present on his research for approximately 40-minutes with a 20-minute question and answer session to follow.
Dr. Michael Keller is a Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering and the Associate Dean for Research in the College of Engineering and Natural Sciences at The University of Tulsa. Dr. Keller completed his B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering (cum laude) at The University of Tulsa and his M.S. degree in Theoretical and Applied Mechanics at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He earned his Ph.D. in Theoretical and Applied Mechanics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
Composite materials are continuously evolving toward increasing complexity. As the application space for these materials increase, so do the demands on these materials, driving their design space beyond simple manipulation of strength, stiffness, and toughness. To address these new application spaces, material design approaches that are inspired by biology have been adopted to provide multifunctional composites that can respond to their environment. This talk will present research results and future plans on the development of new, magnetically-based, self-sensing polymer composites and composites intended for extreme thermal environments. Critical issues for these materials, such as damage modes, fracture scale, and kinetics will also be presented.
