Tissue Regeneration and Matrix Remodeling - Diagnostic Tools and Therapeutic Targets
May 8th | 1:30pm – 2:30pm
Adams Conference Room (E125) – Veterinary Medicine Bldg.
Join us for “Tissue Regeneration and Matrix Remodeling - Diagnostic Tools and Therapeutic Targets " a keynote presentation by College of Veterinary Medicine – Biomedical Sciences, MizzouForward faculty candidate, Dr. Lisandra de Castro Brás. Dr. de Castro Brás will present on her research for approximately 40-minutes with a 20-minute question and answer session to follow.
Dr. Lisandra de Castro Brás is an Associate Professor (tenured) in the Department of Physiology, Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University, Greenville, NC. Dr. de Castro Brás completed her Eng degree in Biotechnology Engineering at the University of Algarve, Faro, Portugal and earned her Ph.D. in Biological Sciences from Brunel University, London, U.K.
Dr de Castro Brás’ laboratory focus on cardiovascular physiology, with emphasis in extracellular matrix (ECM) remodeling. Her team investigates the byproducts of ECM remodeling to determine their potential both as diagnostic tools, to stratify between heart failure patient populations, and as therapeutic targets to prevent and reverse maladaptive left ventricular remodeling. In parallel to cardiac research, recent projects are focused on the roles of bioactive ECM peptides in cutaneous wound healing and tumor development.
