Founded in May 1898, the State Historical Society collects, preserves, and publishes materials that enhance research. It provides a large library of manuscript collections, rare books, an extensive art collection by George Caleb Bingham and Thomas Hart Benton, thousands of maps and photographic images, editorial cartoons, and unique manuscript collections.
